The renaissance of Christian Eriksen is a tale in the football paradigm that will be foretold for generations. On June 12 2021 during a Euro 2021 match in Copenhagen, Eriksen fell to ground and the subsequent images that were telecasted live were horrific. He had suffered cardiac arrest off the ball during their match against Finland in the first half. He was given CPR and medical emergency treatment on the pitch with the Danish team forming a ring around the medical staff treating Eriksen. The scenes were disheartening and it seemed that the Denmark campaign in the Euro is going to get derailed completely because of the incident that happened with their star player. Eriksen miraculously was stabilized and the Danish team returned to pitch to complete the match. Denmark had an emotionally charged tournament though unsuccessful in their bid for a trophy.
One and a half year later, Eriksen had returned to the national side and is in fine form with the Premier League giants Manchester United. He is expected to power the engine in midfield and ably distribute the ball to the forward line comprising Damsgaard and Braithwaite.
In terms of form, Denmark had a mixed outing winning three and losing two out of their last five games leading to the world cup. The highlight of these matches being a 2-0 win over France back in September. On the other hand, Tunisia has won three and lost one out of their last five games with morale boosting wins over Japan and Chile with a comfortable margin. The last game before the world cup though was a 1-5 humbling at the hands of Brazil.
Both the teams have faced each other once before back in 2002 where Denmark secured a win over Tunisia by 2-1. Though on current form, Tunisia appears to be doing better than Denmark but, today’s opponent and current world cup holders France are largely expected to make it through the group. The quality in the Danish lineup is likely to prove too much for Tunisia and a positive result in favor of Denmark is foreseen.
This game is going to be a hard fought encounter, where Tunisia can also be expected to cause an upset but Denmark remains the favorite. The margin of the game is likely to stay around one goal.
